Job summary

The MSJA Academy Assistant at Jazz at Lincoln Center assists the Site Coordinator in supporting New York City middle school students with jazz education programs.

Responsibilities include setting up rooms, coordinating materials, communicating with families, and accompanying staff to events, with occasional auditions and planning meetings as required.

Qualifications

• Interest in jazz education and serving the needs of middle school students.
• Experience managing middle school students and working with parents is preferred.
• Demonstrate mature, sensitive, thoughtful attitude towards learning.

• Participate in the student audition process as requested.
• Complete any other duties or responsibilities assigned.

MSJA offers tuition‑free instrumental jazz instruction to New York City middle school students. Students learn how to play jazz while emphasizing the importance of teamwork, creativity, and self‑expression, from Jazz at Lincoln Center faculty and visiting jazz masters.

The MSJA Academy Assistant is a reliable and caring professional that works closely with the MSJA Site Coordinator to support students.

Qualifications

• High level of interest in jazz education and serving the needs of middle school students.
• Experience managing middle school students and working with parents is preferred.
• Demonstrate mature, sensitive, thoughtful attitude towards learning.
• Excellent instrumental ability in piano, percussion, bass, trumpet, trombone, clarinet, flute, or saxophone.
• Solid organizational, coordination, and communication (verbal and written) skills.
• Spanish proficiency is desirable (not required).
• Interest and availability in working Saturdays and supporting other MSJA and/or JALC activities as required.
• If needed, attending auditions, callbacks, field trips, and meetings.
• Complete any other duties or responsibilities assigned.
