For over 100 years, The Fessenden School has offered state-of-the-art facilities, a dynamic curriculum, and programs specifically designed to meet the educational and developmental needs of boys.Position SummaryThe Learning Resources Academic Tutor provides one-on-one support for boys in Grades 5–9 who have been identified as needing additional support in any of a variety of subject areas, as well as organization, executive functioning, and study skills. Academic Tutors typically meet one-on-one with students.ScheduleSchool year 2026-2027Tutoring takes place when School is in session, as well as in the afternoon and evening; hours are variable based on need and Tutor availabilityEssential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:Meet with individual students in a tutorial setting to provide support with assignments and organizationProvide differentiated instruction to meet the learning needs of a range of studentsCommunicate regularly and effectively with parents, both orally and in writing, through emails and bi-annual reportsCommunicate and partner regularly and effectively with classroom teacher(s), both orally and in writingCollaborate with teachers and colleagues in the Learning Resources DepartmentFacilitate parent-teacher conferences and attend Student Support Team meetings as neededIncorporate educational technology in tutorial lessons and support student use of assistive technology in the classroomMaintain regular and reliable attendanceAttend Learning Resource Department meetingsAttend professional development meetings (three full days and three afternoons)Maintain current CPR/AED & first aid certification and child abuse prevention trainingExemplify the School’s mission and community principlesComplete other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Support or the SchoolDesired QualitiesCommitment to inclusion, social justice, diversity, and equityEnthusiasm and skills to engage boys and build meaningful relationshipsStrong oral and written communication skillsAbility to perform critical thinking, organization, collaboration, prioritization, and problem-solvingAbility to serve among a diverse community of colleagues, students, and parentsCommitment to boys and boys’ educationCurrent with curriculum and 21st century learning and teachingMinimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in education or a related subjectExperience in supporting children in one-to-one or small group settingsSuccessful criminal background checkCompensation60-minute sessions are $105/hour.
