Job summary

South Piedmont Community College is seeking a part-time tutor to assist students by clarifying course content and modeling effective study strategies. The tutor will support students in Academic Support Centers across Polkton, Monroe, and Wadesboro campuses.

The role requires meeting with tutees, consulting with instructors, and conducting sessions in person or online while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.

Qualifications

• Continuous enrollment as a student at South Piedmont Community College for the duration of employment as a tutor.
• A grade of B or higher in all courses and/or academic subject areas for which tutoring services will be offered.
• A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher in all post-secondary coursework.

Responsibilities

• Meet with assigned tutees in Academic Support Centers or other designated areas.
• Consult with a tutee’s instructors for advice, guidance, and direction in tutoring work.
• Conduct in-person or online tutoring sessions as needed.
• Inform and/or consult with the Academic Support Center director if problems are encountered, or if assistance is needed for a tutoring situation.
• Work cooperatively with Academic Support Center staff to deliver a cohesive tutoring program and respond to diverse student needs.
• Attend tutoring training sessions and staff meetings, as requested.
• Respect students’ rights to confidentiality and follow legal guidelines regarding information dispersal.
• Act as a representative for the tutoring program within the college community.
• Submit weekly reports and monthly timesheets as requested.
• Accept tutoring assignments at L.L. Polk campus (Polkton), Old Charlotte Highway campus (Monroe), and Lockhart-Taylor Center (Wadesboro).
• Attend all tutor training activities and departmental staff meetings as scheduled.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
