Milestones Tutoring is seeking an Academic Tutor to provide one-on-one and small-group instruction in a hybrid setting in the Hampton Roads region. The role supports K-12 and college coursework, with focus on strengthening conceptual understanding and academic skills.

The tutor will assess student needs, design lesson plans, deliver engaging lessons, monitor progress, and maintain accurate records. Strong communication with families and staff is essential to foster an inclusive learning

Formación

• Experience tutoring or teaching individuals or small groups.

Role Description

The Academic Tutor role at Milestones Tutoring is a part or full-time hybrid position based in the Hampton Roads, Virginia and surrounding areas, with some flexibility for work from home. In this role, the tutor provides one-on-one and small-group academic support, primarily through private one hour sessions that focus on strengthening understanding of key concepts, in K-12 as well as College coursework. Day-to-day tasks include assessing student needs, preparing lesson plans, delivering engaging instruction, monitoring progress, and communicating regularly with students, families, and staff. The tutor is expected to maintain accurate records, adapt teaching strategies to different learning styles, and contribute to a positive and inclusive educational environment.

Qualifications

• Strong tutoring and private classes experience, with a focus on individualized academic support.
• Background in education and instructional practices, ideally with experience working with diverse learners.
• Solid proficiency in subjects relevant to the curricula being taught.
• Effective communication skills for interacting with students, families, and colleagues.
• Ability to plan, organize, and deliver structured lessons both in-person and remotely.
• Demonstrated patience, empathy, and commitment to inclusive, non-discriminatory educational practices.
• Prior experience as an academic tutor, teacher, or teaching assistant is an advantage.
