Job summary

Laramie County SD #2 Burns Jr./Sr. High School in Burns, Wyoming, is seeking an Academic Tutor to develop and oversee intervention strategies for student success across reading, writing, language and math.

The tutor will work with the BIT and classroom teachers to implement targeted supports and monitor progress. The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Wyoming Teaching Certification, and a valid Wyoming driver’s license with a clean record.

Job Description

SUMMARY

The Tutor primarily develops and administers intervention strategies to support student success in academics (e.g. reading, writing, language, math, etc.). The tutor collaborates with the building principal, teachers, professional staff, and paraprofessionals to address instructional issues. The tutor works with students individually, in small groups, or within the classroom. The tutor plays an important role on the building intervention team (BIT).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Adapts classroom work for the purpose of providing students with interventions, differentiated strategies, and instructional materials that address individualized and/or small group learning plans.
  • Collaborates with instructional staff, PLC teams, other school personnel, parents, and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes.
  • Coordinates instruction for the purpose of developing interventions cooperatively with classroom teachers to adequately meet the needs of targeted students.
  • Establishes and maintains a variety of written materials (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, records and reports concerning target pupils, etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress.
  • Identifies areas of specific need for pupils for the purpose of planning how these needs may be met through interventions, specific materials and individualized and/or small group instruction. These areas may be identified through classroom observations.
  • Instructs targeted at-risk students in content area subjects (e.g. reading comprehension, vocabulary development, decoding skills, reference and study skills, math concepts, writing, language) for the purpose of improving their success in academics through a defined course of study.
  • Participates in a variety of meetings (e.g. staff, department, BIT) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information necessary for addressing academic deficiencies.
  • Supports classroom teachers for the purpose of assisting them in the implementation of established curriculum and/or individual student plans.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in education.
  • Wyoming Teaching Certification required.
  • Valid Wyoming Driver’s License and a clear driving record. Must agree to and clear a background check.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

  • This is a full-time position with benefits. Salary will be based on the district Certified Teacher Salary Schedule and determined upon experience.
