Job summary

Lone Star College seeks a student-focused tutor to support learning strategies and student success. You will tutor in assigned disciplines, help students develop study habits, time management, and academic planning to enable progress toward their goals.

Responsibilities include scheduling, maintaining tutoring records, delivering subject-specific workshops, and coordinating tutor meetings. Prior tutoring or mentoring experience is preferred; a High School Diploma or GED with 3+ years of work

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED with at least 3 years of work experience.
• Transcripts and/or a proficiency test may be required.

Responsibilities

• Identifies individual skill gaps and provides weekly action plans to ensure academic success.
• Monitors the academic progress of students and collaborates to develop personalized action plans.
• Guides students to develop accountability and understand how decisions impact success.
• Helps students identify and remove barriers to academic success.
• Models effective study strategies and self-advocacy; delivers workshops each semester.
• Coordinates tutor and tutee meetings and maintains a weekly schedule of available hours.
• Keeps regular records of tutoring sessions and reviews student work.
• Interacts with staff/faculty to obtain syllabus/materials and develop tutoring materials.
• Continues professional education related to the subject matter.
