Job summary

The University of Utah’s College of Architecture + Planning seeks an Academic Program Manager to lead college-wide academic initiatives, support student success, scholarships, and strategic programming. Reporting to the Associate Director of Student Services, this role partners with departments, leadership, faculty, and campus partners to deliver operational leadership for student services.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Public Administration, or related area plus three years of experience in budget, grant and program management.
  • Three years of experience in budget, grant and program management or equivalency.
  • Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with academic leadership, faculty, and staff to strengthen student support services across the College of Architecture + Planning.
  • Coordinate regular meetings of Academic Program Managers to foster collaboration, share best practices, and develop graduate student tracking and administrative processes.
  • Engage with students through surveys, focus groups, and other assessment methods to identify trends, recommend improvements, and enhance the student experience.
  • Assist departments with permission code tracking, particularly for Design Foundations courses.
  • Support academic processes including admissions, petitions, exceptions, withdrawals, and approvals.
  • Manage the College’s semiannual scholarship cycles using Scholarship Universe and serve as the primary liaison with the Scholarship Universe team.
  • Collaborate with the College budget team to monitor scholarship expenditures and ensure timely distribution of funds.
  • Maintain scholarship records and establish consistent processes for creating, implementing, and managing scholarship funds.
  • Supervise the College Honors Graduate Teaching Assistant and coordinate Honors student engagement activities.
  • Plan and manage college-wide events including Career Expo, end-of-year showcases, graduation, and admissions events.
  • Support Activate initiatives focused on student access, engagement, belonging, and academic excellence, and monitor outcomes with leadership.

Job Summary

The Academic Program Manager supports college-wide academic initiatives, student success, scholarships, and strategic programming within the College of Architecture + Planning (CA+P). Working collaboratively with academic departments, college leadership, faculty, and campus partners, this position provides operational leadership for student support services, helps manage key college events and scholarship processes, and advances strategic initiatives that enhance the student experience.

This position will report to the Associate Director of Student Services.

Responsibilities
Academic Program and Student Support
  • Collaborate with academic leadership, faculty, and staff to strengthen student support services across the College of Architecture + Planning
  • Coordinate regular meetings of Academic Program Managers to foster collaboration, share best practices, and develop consistent graduate student tracking and administrative processes
  • Engage with students through surveys, focus groups, and other assessment methods to identify trends, recommend improvements, and enhance the student experience
  • Assist departments with permission code tracking, particularly for Design Foundations courses

Honors Program Support
  • Supervise the College Honors Graduate Teaching Assistant
  • Partner with Department Honors Liaisons and the Honors College to support student retention, academic success, and graduation
  • Coordinate Honors student engagement activities and events
Events and Student Engagement
  • Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Student Services, plan, coordinate, and manage college-wide events in collaboration with campus and college partners, including:
  • Annual Career Expo in partnership with U Career Success
  • End-of-year student showcases for CA+P departments
  • Graduation and convocation ceremonies
  • Admissions events such as Life at the U and Choose the U
Strategic Initiatives and College Collaboration
  • Support implementation of the College’s Activate strategic initiatives focused on student access, engagement, belonging, and academic excellence
  • Serve as a liaison among department chairs, academic program staff, faculty, and college leadership to advance holistic student success
  • Monitor and assess Activate-related initiatives by tracking outcomes, developing performance metrics, and preparing reports for college leadership
  • Develop and implement college-wide practices that align graduate student support and administrative processes with Activate priorities
  • Participate in Activate planning meetings with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Associate Director of Student Services, and other college leaders as appropriate
  • Other tasks as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Public Administration, or related area plus three years of experience in budget, grant and program management or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required. Develops and implements program ideas into successful academic and research programs; demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Business Administration, or related field.
