  • Manage accounts payable and receivable and financial records.
  • Oversee budgets and financial reporting for university operations.
  • Cross-train on daily office processes as assigned.

Job Summary

The Accounting & Finance Manager reports directly to the Director of Sunnyside Apartments and serves as a key member of the Sunnyside Leadership Team. Working collaboratively with other department leaders, this position helps establish organizational priorities, strengthen operational effectiveness, manage financial risk, and support the overall success of the University’s family and graduate housing operations.

The position directly supervises employees and is accountable for assigning and reviewing work, establishing expectations, coaching, and developing employees, addressing performance concerns, and creating an effective and service-oriented team. The manager must be able to balance hands‑on financial responsibilities with staff leadership, strategic problem‑solving, and cross‑functional collaboration.

Responsibilities
  • Member of the Sunnyside Leadership Team and participate in department‑wide planning, problem‑solving, policy development, and operational decision‑making.
  • Directly supervise employees, including hiring, onboarding, training, work assignment, performance evaluation, coaching, corrective action, and professional development.
  • Collaborate across accounting, leasing, maintenance, and resident service functions to resolve issues and improve departmental processes.
  • Monthly and Annual Profit & Loss statements
  • Monthly and Annual Balance Sheet reconciliation
  • Monthly and Annual Restoration & Renewal Statements
  • Annual Operating & R&R Budgets,
  • Financial Reporting as required by Auxiliary Services, University of Utah CFO , Board of Trustees, and Board of Regents
  • Manage A/P and A/R
  • Purchasing Card departmental program management – reallocation, and reconciliation
  • Internal Audit Response

  • Maintain and Archive Financial Records per University of Utah Policy

Minimum Qualifications

EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT : 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).

Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 6 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 4 years of directly related work experience.

Preferences
  • Three or more years of successful supervisory or management experience.
  • Experience serving on a leadership or management team and contributing to organization‑wide decisions beyond the individual’s technical area.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through collaboration and contribute effectively as a member of a senior or departmental leadership team.
  • Experience managing financial operations in higher education, student housing, multifamily housing, property management, or another complex service‑oriented organization.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft, Yardi Voyager, or comparable enterprise financial and property‑management systems.
  • Demonstrated excellence in customer service at a previous employer.
