Banner University Medical Group in Tucson, Arizona seeks an experienced academic pathologist to serve as Vice Chair of Clinical Operations in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and Medical Director of Laboratories at Banner – University Medical Center Tucson.

The role includes strategic oversight of laboratory operations and an active clinical practice, with a faculty appointment at the University of Arizona College of Medicine — Tucson.

Qualifications

• MD, DO, or equivalent clinical doctoral degree.
• Board certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and/or Clinical Pathology.
• Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in Arizona.
• Leadership experience in clinical laboratory operations (e.g., Medical Director, Associate Medical Director, Section Chief).
• Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide medical and strategic leadership for Anatomic and Clinical Pathology laboratory operations.
• Serve as Laboratory Medical Director and ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, CMS, and applicable regulatory standards.
• Oversee quality assurance, proficiency testing, test validation, utilization, and performance improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with hospital and system leadership on laboratory strategy, service expansion, technology, and operational priorities.
• Serve as a physician liaison between laboratory services, medical staff, and hospital/system leadership.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, mentorship, and development of pathology faculty and staff.
• Maintain an active clinical practice in Anatomic and/or Clinical Pathology and participate in call.
• Participate in education, mentorship, and scholarly activities within the department.
