Job summary

Albany Medical Center (AMC) is seeking a Pathologists' Assistant to join the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Capital Region's only academic medical center. This role offers a chance to work on complex surgical pathology, collaborate closely with pathologists and residents, and contribute to education and laboratory practice in a busy academic setting.

• Perform gross examination, description, dissection, and sampling of a broad spectrum of surgical pathology specimens.
• Collaborate with pathologists, residents, histology staff, and lab leadership to improve quality and workflow.
• Teach and mentor pathology residents and other learners in grossing and surgical pathology techniques.

Responsibilities

• Perform gross examination, description, dissection, and sampling of a broad spectrum of surgical pathology specimens.
• Evaluate and prepare tissue for intraoperative consultation and frozen section, working directly with pathologists during time-sensitive clinical decision-making.
• Photograph and document gross specimens and ensure accurate specimen orientation, sampling, and submission.
• Serve as a resource for difficult or unusual specimens and contribute to consistent, high-quality grossing practices.
• Teach and mentor pathology residents and other learners in gross examination, dissection, specimen handling, and surgical pathology technique.
• Work collaboratively with pathologists, residents, histology staff, operating room personnel, and laboratory leadership to continuously improve quality and workflow.
• Participate in quality improvement, procedure development, validation, education, and other departmental initiatives according to your interests and experience.
