Job summary

Albany Med seeks a Pathologists' Assistant to join its Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Capital Region's academic medical center. This role offers autonomy, collaboration with pathologists and residents, and an active role in education and laboratory practice across diverse surgical pathology.

Primary site: 43 New Scotland Avenue, Albany NY 12208; Hours: Mon-Fri 8:00am-4:30pm or 8:30am-5:00pm.

Qualifications

• Experience with gross examination and surgical pathology.
• Ability to mentor residents and learners in pathology techniques.
• Collaborative team player with pathologists and histology staff.

Responsibilities

• Perform gross examination, description, dissection, and sampling of surgical pathology specimens.
• Evaluate and prepare tissue for intraoperative consultation and frozen sections.
• Photograph and document gross specimens and ensure accurate orientation and submission.
• Serve as a resource for difficult specimens and promote high-quality grossing practices.
• Teach and mentor pathology residents and learners in gross examination and surgical pathology techniques.
• Collaborate with pathologists, residents, histology staff, OR personnel, and leadership to improve quality/workflow.
• Participate in quality improvement, procedure development, validation, and education.
