Job summary

Albany Med Health System is seeking a Pathologists' Assistant to join the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Capital Region's only academic medical center. You will work with subspecialty pathologists and residents in a busy academic environment, performing gross examinations and mentoring learners.

You will collaborate across pathology teams, support intraoperative consultations, and contribute to education and ongoing quality initiatives in a high-volume surgical pathology

Qualifications

• Master's degree from NAACLS-accredited Pathologists' Assistant program.
• ASCP certification as PA(ASCP) and NYS Pathologists' Assistant license (or eligibility).
• Strong knowledge of gross anatomy, surgical pathology, specimen handling and lab safety.

Responsibilities

• Perform gross examination, description, dissection and sampling of a broad spectrum of surgical pathology specimens.
• Evaluate and prepare tissue for intraoperative consultation and frozen section with pathologists.
• Photograph and document gross specimens and ensure accurate orientation, sampling and submission.
• Teach and mentor pathology residents and other learners in gross examination and surgical pathology technique.
• Collaborate with pathologists, residents, histology staff and lab leadership to improve quality and workflow.
• Participate in quality improvement, procedure development, validation and education initiatives.

Education

Master's degree from NAACLS-accredited Pathologists' Assistant program

ASCP certification as a PA(ASCP)

New York State Pathologists' Assistant license (or eligibility)
