University of Virginia’s Department of Systems and Information Engineering seeks applications for a Director of Operations to lead day-to-day administrative, financial, HR, and academic operations in support of teaching and research missions.

The ideal candidate will orchestrate staff, collaborate with chairs and faculty, manage budget and staffing, and ensure compliant, efficient operations on-site in Charlottesville, VA.

Competenze

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree required.
• Experience: 3+ years of relevant professional experience including increasingly responsible management and administrative duties.
• Preferred Qualifications include a Master’s degree.
• Experience in fiscal management with annual budget and financial reporting; academic administration or department management in higher education.

Mansioni

• Develops and assists in the implementation of short and long-term strategic goals (including administrative, financial, staffing, and space) which align with department goals in partnership with the department chair and departmental leadership.
• Collaborates with Engineering and University partners such as Graduate and Undergraduate Programs, Human Resources, Finance, Information Technology and Facilities Management.
• Orchestrates the work of the department staff, setting priorities, coordinating assignments across functions, and fostering a collaborative, service-oriented team culture.
• Serves as the primary operational liaison to faculty and students, building trusted working relationships, anticipating needs, and resolving concerns with tact and discretion to ensure responsive, efficient department operations.
• Serves as senior fiscal officer for the department: responsible for the accuracy of the department’s financial reports and financial information; ensuring fiscal activities comply with policies and internal controls.
• Oversees the development of the annual budget in alignment with the department strategic plan and manages expenditures within the approved budget.
• Hires, mentors, and manages the performance of department staff; develops staffing plans to support priorities and ensures execution of merit increases, promotions and evaluations.
• Oversees the space management, safety, and reporting; represents the department in space surveys and related reporting.
• Oversees IT needs and ensures support from partner groups.
• Formulates and enforces departmental procedures in line with policies and regulations.
• Remains up to date on emergency preparedness activities in the School and University.
• Other duties as assigned.
