Job summary

NC State University’s College of Sciences IT is seeking a Director of Information Technology to lead IT strategy, operations, and security across six departments. This role supervises staff, manages budgets, and partners with leadership to advance teaching, research, and administration through technology.

The ideal candidate brings proven IT leadership, strong systems knowledge, and exceptional communication to drive innovative solutions in a university setting.

Qualifications

• Master's degree (or higher) and experience; or Bachelor's with relevant experience; supervisory exp 1-2 years.
• Proven experience as IT Director or similar leadership role.
• Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure, systems, and software.
• Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Familiarity with IT governance, strategy, and security practices.
• Preferred: Master's in science/engineering/computer science plus 3+ years in academic/research IT.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute IT strategies aligned with the College's mission.
• Oversee IT operations, infrastructure, and security for the College of Sciences.
• Lead and mentor IT staff and student employees; foster service-oriented culture.
• Manage annual IT budgets and procurement of hardware, software, and services.
• Represent IT interests on university committees and initiatives.
• Collaborate with faculty, staff, and leadership to identify technology needs.
