Job summary

The Newark Board of Education is seeking an Academic Interventionist to deliver targeted reading and math interventions to K-8 students, using research-based methods during the school day.

Responsibilities include data-driven instruction, analyzing achievement data, coordinating unit plans, and communicating with staff and families; Ten months contract with competitive benefits.

Qualifications

  • NJDOE Standard Certificate, CE, or CEAS as deemed necessary by the NJ Department of Education.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred, unless otherwise specified by NJDOE.
  • Minimum of three years successful teaching experience.
  • Awareness of home-school relationships to administer a successful project.
  • Knowledge of No Child Left Behind Act regulations.
  • Knowledge of New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards.
  • Letters of recommendation, including one from current principal or supervisor.
  • Driver's license valid in NJ if vehicle operation is necessary.
  • Persons with disabilities eligible with reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to work extended learning time hours.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with students to reach mastery.
  • Design and implement academic interventions in Reading and Math using research-based methodology.
  • Demonstrate high levels of professional conduct and exemplary teaching of individuals and small groups.
  • Provide data-driven instruction for Math/LAL for all K-8 students during the school day with flexible grouping.
  • Analyze student achievement data to determine target interventions and develop materials.
  • Use assessment data to refine curriculum and inform instructional practices.
  • Develop unit plan materials with high-quality sequences for each standard and teaching tools.
  • Communicate with school personnel and parents/guardians regarding reading and/or math levels.
  • Perform other duties per contractual terms.

Department: Human Resource Services, Newark Board of Education, 765 Broad Street, Newark, NJ 07102.

Qualifications
  • An appropriate New Jersey Department of Education Standard Certificate, Certificate of Eligibility (CE), or Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS) as deemed necessary by the NJ Department of Education.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (preferred), unless otherwise specified by the NJ Department of Education.
  • Minimum of three (3) years successful teaching experience.
  • Awareness of relationships that must exist between home and school in order to administer a successful project.
  • A working knowledge of federal and state regulations, specifically those identified in the No Child Left Behind Act.
  • Knowledge of New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards.
  • Letters of recommendation, which should include one (1) from current principal or supervisor.
  • Possession of a driver's license, valid in New Jersey, only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform the essential duties.
  • Persons with mental or physical disabilities are eligible as long as they can perform the essential functions of the job following reasonable accommodation, unless such accommodation would cause undue hardship.
  • Ability to work extended learning time hours.
Responsibilities

  • Use assessment data to refine curriculum and inform instructional practices.
  • Develop and/or coordinate exemplary unit plan materials, including high-quality sequences for each unit, teaching tools for each standard, and additional materials for teacher use and student practice.
  • Communicate with school personnel and parents/guardians regarding reading and/or math levels.
  • Perform other duties consistent with specific contractual terms of employment as assigned by appropriate staff and supervisor.

Salary, Terms & Affiliation
  • Salary range: $70,000 - $114,750
  • Employment period: Ten months
  • Union affiliation: Newark Teachers' Union (N.T.U.)
