Job summary

CoreCivic is seeking an Academic Instructor to teach basic education subjects in a residential facility. The role involves delivering math, science, reading, writing, and language arts instruction, creating level-appropriate lesson plans, and maintaining a positive, orderly classroom environment.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's degree and relevant Florida teaching credentials or eligibility, with preferred experience in correctional education and proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Must possess or be eligible to obtain a Florida Department of Education Professional Educator's Certificate.
• Non-certified applicants must possess or be eligible to obtain a Florida Temporary Educator's Certificate within twelve (12) months of hire date.
• Must obtain a Florida Department of Education Professional Educator's Certificate within thirty-six (36) months of hire date or prior to the expiration of the Temporary certificate.
• Experience in correctional custody/law enforcement preferred.
• Continued employment in this position will be contingent upon obtaining and/or maintaining required agency credentials.
• Three years of classroom instruction experience is preferred.
• Experience in Microsoft Office applications is required.
• A valid driver's license is required.
• Minimum age requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age.

• Plan a program of study, lesson plans, assignments, and tests under general supervision.
• Provides instruction using course outline, handouts and texts, audiovisual aids and other materials.
• Administer tests to evaluate students' progress and competency with subject matter.
• Assist students with individualized instruction as needed.

The Academic Instructor maintains a positive learning environment, adopting secure classroom management practices, and develops level appropriate lesson plans.
