Job summary

CoreCivic in Georgia is seeking an Academic Instructor to deliver foundational education to inmates in a secure setting. You will teach math, science, social studies, reading, writing, and language arts, while maintaining a positive classroom environment and developing level-appropriate lesson plans.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree, Georgia PSC certification or eligibility, and at least 3 years of classroom instruction experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required.
• Must be certified by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission in Adult Education, Middle Grades, English, Math, Social Studies, Science, Reading, Special Education or Health/Physical Education; or possess or be eligible for provisional teaching certification.
• Three years of classroom instruction experience is preferred.
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications is required.
• A valid driver's license is required.
• Minimum age is 18 years.

• Prepare course objectives following curriculum standards and contract requirements.
• Plan a program of study, lesson plans, assignments, and tests under general supervision.
• Provides instruction using course outline, handouts and texts, audiovisual aids and other materials.
• Administer tests to evaluate students' progress and competency with subject matter.
• Assist students with individualized instruction as needed.

The Academic Instructor provides instruction in basic education subjects such as mathematics, science, social studies, reading, writing and language arts, to help inmates/students learn skills that will contribute to their development as mature, responsible citizens. The Academic Instructor maintains a positive learning environment, adopting secure classroom management practices, and develops level appropriate lesson plans.
