Job summary

University of Houston Music Department is seeking an experienced administrator to manage the department’s administrative, financial, budgetary, and HR operations for a large, complex unit. The role oversees administration of research grants, service centers and institutes for the department.

The position emphasizes compliance with UH policies, state and federal regulations, and supervision of departmental staff, with a focus on accuracy in accounting and budget reporting.

Qualifications

• Requires a minimum of five (5) years of directly job-related experience.
• Education will be considered in lieu of experience.

Responsibilities

• Manages the department's financial accounting system, including cost centers for federal grants and contracts.
• Reviews and approves reconciliation of accounting records and prepares financial and budget reports.
• Ensures compliance with UH internal audit requirements, policies, and state and federal rules.
• Oversees all administrative and financial affairs of the department including personnel, procurement, travel documentation, and accounts payable/receivable.
• Supervises departmental staff, defines duties, sets performance plans, and conducts annual reviews; enforces safety rules.
• Serves as liaison for the chair, faculty and staff with other university departments.
• Facilitates regular staff meetings to share information and train staff on current practices.
