Position Summary: Under general supervision of the Associate Director of Academic Advising, the Academic Advisor II is responsible for providing general advising for first‑time freshmen, second‑year students (specifically those on academic probation), and General Education and graduation requirements for transfer and continuing students. The incumbent needs to be sensitive to the needs of a diverse student population.
The Academic Advising Center offers current students advising on General Education and Graduation Requirements. The Center engages students in a developmental process that helps clarify and implement individual educational plans consistent with their skills, interests, and values.
FLSA: Exempt (Not eligible for overtime compensation)
Anticipated Hiring Range: $5,083 per month (Anticipated hiring rate is at the minimum of the classification salary range)
CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,083 per month - $7,228 per month
Work Hours: 8:00am-5:00pm, M-F, other occasional hours as needed. Summer Hours are 7:30am - 4:00pm.
Department Information: Academic Advising Center offers mandatory freshman and transfer orientation, mandatory freshman advising, and general education and graduation requirement advising for all students. The center engages students in a developmental process that helps them clarify and implement individual educational plans consistent with their skills, interests, and values.
Knowledge and Abilities: The candidate will interpret and apply program rules and regulations; use initiative; conduct interviews; analyze data; advise students; and maintain working relationships with faculty, administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies. They will make decisions that have implications with other program or service areas.
Experience: Equivalent to two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or a related field; a master's degree in a job‑related field may substitute for one year of professional experience.
Education: Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a related field. Additional specialized experience can substitute for required education.
