Job Duties
Student Guidance and Academic Empowerment:
- Empowering Academic Success: Deliver proactive, comprehensive academic advising tailored to individual needs. Help students navigate the complexities of university life, encouraging them to reach their full potential.
- Major Exploration and Career Guidance: Assist students in discovering and pursuing their best-fit major. Provide insights into various majors and career paths, making the exploration process exciting and informative.
- Academic Planning and Course Selection: Guide students through course selection, ensuring a balanced and fulfilling first-year journey. Offer insights into degree requirements and help in crafting schedules that align with students’ goals and interests.
Support And Navigational Assistance
- Navigational Help: Help students interpret academic policies, degree audits, and transcripts. Demystify complex university procedures, aiding in decision-making and planning.
- Campus Connections: Act as a bridge to other university resources and services, enhancing student experience.
Engagement And Community Outreach
- Community Outreach: Engage with prospective students and their families, providing exceptional service and information about Texas State.
- Event Participation: Participate in key university events like Bobcat Day to aid recruitment and retention efforts.
Collaboration And Communication
- Collaborative Efforts: Maintain strong communication and collaborative relationships with academic departments and university divisions.
- Presentation Skills: Conduct dynamic and informative presentations, engaging students and stakeholders in meaningful ways.
Operational Excellence And Commitment
- Record Keeping: Keep meticulous and confidential student records, documenting all interactions thoroughly.
- Administrative Support: Provide administrative assistance for the efficient operation of advising services.
- Flexibility and Commitment: Adapt to a flexible schedule, including standard hours and occasional night/weekend work for special events.

- This job is an in-person position on the San Marcos campus. After completing training and receiving approval from their immediate supervisor, this position can participate in remote work with a 2-3 schedule (2 days remote and 3 days in person).
