DEFINITION:
Serve as an essential member of the Academic Advising Center (AAC) by delivering high-quality advising services to students enrolled in Career and Technical Education (CTE) majors, including but not limited to academic planning, course registration, and navigation of college resources.
Assess CTE student needs, goals, interests, and prior academic experiences to guide them in the design and implementation of a successful academic plan. Collaborate with the Academic Advising Center team, CTE faculty, Economic & Workforce Development staff, and Student Services staff to address the advising needs of individual students and groups. Cultivating strong collaborative relationships with CTE faculty and maintaining comprehensive knowledge of all CTE programs offered at CFCC. Understand and interpret CFCC policies, block schedules, procedures, and CTE degree plans to facilitate student success through accurate guidance and support.
This position may provide advising support at multiple campus locations. The CTE Academic Advisor plays a critical role in creating a supportive and inclusive environment by welcoming students, assessing their needs, and ensuring every interaction reflects the college's commitment to excellence in service and radical hospitality.

Essential Functions:
- Guide CTE students in exploring programs and identifying the most appropriate educational pathway based on their career interests, academic goals, prior learning, and individual circumstances, including determining whether a curriculum (CU) or continuing education (CE) pathway is the best fit.
- Provide cross-divisional advising between Curriculum and Continuing Education, helping students understand the differences among degree, diploma, certificate, credential, and other CTE program options and facilitating transitions between CU and CE pathways when appropriate.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of CTE degree, diploma, and certificate programs to ensure accurate program-specific advising.
- Deliver exceptional customer service and demonstrate radical hospitality in all interactions with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
- Develop and maintain a strong understanding of the unique needs and challenges of community college students, recognizing the balance many navigate among employment, family responsibilities, and personal commitments.
- Assist CTE students with the course registration process and provide instruction on how to effectively navigate and independently use Self-Service and other student information systems.
- Provide information and guidance regarding academic processes, important deadlines, and institutional requirements.
- Advise students regarding degree, diploma, and certificate requirements, graduation requirements, and academic policies.
- Review and interpret placement scores, standardized assessments, CTE program evaluations, and other academic records to support student decision-making.
- Assist students in understanding transfer admission requirements specific to CTE programs, articulation agreements, and degree pathways to four-year institutions.
- Develop group advising sessions for CTE students in collaboration with CTE faculty advisors.
- Serve as a student advocate when appropriate to support student success and persistence.
- Respond to advising inquiries, callback requests, and student service needs in a timely, professional, and student-centered manner.
- Provide advising and student support services at multiple campus locations and other assigned sites.
- Connect students with appropriate campus resources and specialized staff for counseling, financial aid, accessibility services, career planning, career fairs and hiring events, apprenticeship opportunities, and other support services.
- Serve as an academic advising resource for faculty and staff and provide presentations, workshops, and informational sessions related to CTE academic planning and student success.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with CTE faculty, program directors, and department chairs, to support collaboration, maintain accurate program information, and support student success initiatives
- Participate in new student orientation, career events, and other enrollment and student services activities.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records of student interactions and advising activities.
- Stay current on institutional information, including admissions requirements, CTE program updates, curriculum changes, deadlines, costs, academic policies, and student support services.
- Participate in the Academic Advising Center's planning, implementation, assessment, and continuous improvement efforts related to departmental goals and objectives.
- Participate in student services programs and initiatives that support student retention, progression, and completion.
- Engage in professional development activities to maintain advising knowledge, best practices, and compliance with institutional standards.

Knowledge of:

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:
Minimum Education/Training:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited College or University
Minimum Experience:
- One-year experience working with students in a community college or university setting.
Preferred Education/Training, Experience, Skills:
- Majors related to secondary or higher education
- 2 – 3+ years’ experience working with students in a community college or university setting
