Job summary

MIT Energy Initiative (MITEI) Education seeks a Program Coordinator to manage day-to-day operations and student support for its Education programs, including the Energy Studies Minor, UROP, Energy Scholars, and online courses. You will advise students, plan events, and collaborate with sponsors and partners.

Under the Director's supervision, you will develop communications, evaluate program effectiveness, and help expand MITEI Education initiatives while cultivating relationships with students,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or science; at least two years in higher education administration, project management, curriculum development, student services, or related field.
  • Preferred: 3–5 years; master's degree; knowledge of MIT operations and event planning; bilingual capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day operations and student support for MITEI education programs.
  • Provide student advising and events planning; develop marketing and engagement communications.
  • Collaborate with industry sponsors; evaluate program effectiveness.

MITEI EDUCATION'S PROGRAM COORDINATOR, MIT Energy Initiative (MITEI), working with supervision from the Director of Education, manages day-to-day operations and student support for MITEI's academic programs including: the Energy Studies Minor (MIT's flagship undergraduate energy program), UROP (60-100 undergraduate researchers annually across MIT), Energy Scholars (10-20 PhD energy researchers each year), and the online education program (reaching ~25K global learners per year). The Program Coordinator provides student advising and events planning; develops marketing and engagement communications; works with industry sponsors of MITEI's education programs; evaluates program effectiveness; and supports MITEI's online learning courses. With the Director, the Program Coordinator will also coordinate new initiatives and strategically expand MITEI education programs, while building and maintaining relationships with students, staff, and faculty across MIT, program sponsors, and global learning audiences and institutes.

MITEI is MIT's hub for energy research, education, and engagement, addressing global energy challenges in collaboration with industry members, government agencies, and academic partners. MITEI's Education Office leads energy education across all of MIT and provides global learners with opportunities to develop critical knowledge to understand and contribute to the energy transition.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED : Bachelor's degree in an engineering or science field; a minimum of two years of professional experience in higher education administration, project management or coordination, curriculum development, student services, or a related field; familiarity with the energy, sustainability, or climate sectors, environmental policy, or hard-tech; excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, sponsors, and institutional partners; proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and ability to quickly learn new software and database systems; customer service orientation with genuine interest in supporting student success and creating welcoming community; ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and tasks in a fast-paced academic environment; and demonstrated capacity for both detail orientation and big-picture thinking.

PREFERRED : Three to five years of experience; a master's degree in engineering or science; higher education administration, program management, or a related field; knowledge of MIT operations, culture, and institutional structure; or experience managing academic programs, student enrollment, or advising processes; event planning experience; or bilingual capabilities (Spanish, Mandarin, or other languages).
