Description:

Key Responsibilities (list 5-8):

  1. Accurately abstracts information from the service documentation, assigns and sequences appropriate CPT, ICD-9/10, and HCPCS codes into the appropriate billing systems, ensuring compliance with established guidelines.
  2. Communicates professionally with providers, practice management, and other stakeholders, either verbally or in writing.
  3. Responsible for working encounters in the coding work queue or task lists in a timely manner.
  4. Meets or exceeds organizational coding production and quality standards.
  5. Understands and applies regulatory changes and stays current with coding updates, such as NCCI and MUE edits.
  6. Reviews and resolves coding denials.
  7. Participates in special projects and completes other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements / Qualifications
Education/Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One year physician coding experience preferred.
  • Previous Electronic Health Record experience preferred.
License/Certification:
  • Coding Certification through AHIMA as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Coding Specialist Physician Based (CCS-P), OR through AAPC as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) required.
  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to the population served within three months of hire.
