Job summary

Able SC is seeking a part-time Community Support Member to provide direct services, information, and referrals across South Carolina. You will deliver independent living skills training, group training, and peer mentorship to people with disabilities, while connecting clients to Able SC programs and external partners.

  • Respond to inquiries about South Carolina resources by phone, email, or walk-ins
  • Connect individuals with Able SC programs or external organizations
  • Provide one-on-one services including goal-setting and peer support

Job description

Serving throughout the state, Able SC promotes individual leadership and creative teamwork and cultivates a shared pride in the future of an inclusive state. The Community Support Member provides direct services and support to the people we serve. The member position involves interacting with the community to provide information and referrals to callers, direct independent living skills training and group training, deliver durable medical equipment, and serve as a peer mentor to other people with disabilities.

Member Duties
  • Contribute to online content and presentations promoting disability awareness and culture
  • Participate in community service events, outreach programs, and educational projects
  • Assist with community preparedness and disaster response efforts
  • Provide individualized and group mentorship to build confidence, set goals, and foster personal development through direct service
  • Act as an advocate and peer mentor for the rights of people with disabilities
  • Respond to phone calls, emails, and walk-in visitors inquiring about South Carolina resources
  • Connect individuals with relevant external organizations or appropriate Able SC programs
  • Provide one-on-one services including goal-setting, developing goal plans, and offering peer support
