Job summary

UnityPoint Health in Iowa City is seeking a Behavioral Health Assistant to support adults with serious mental illness in a supportive living environment. You will contribute to day-to-day operations, program development and oversight within a community-based setting.

The role emphasizes ethical practice, collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, and ongoing professional growth while delivering compassionate care within UnityPoint Health's mission to improve lives.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in a human service-related field plus at least 1 year of related experience.
• If no degree, at least 2 years of experience in a human-service field and a high school diploma.
• Experience working in Medicaid waiver programs.

Responsibilities

• Is aware of department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (eg. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of department or administrative staff.
• Purposefully conducts all aspects of the job in an ethical manner in support of the organization’s commitment to ethical behavior in all areas of personal and professional activity.
• Recognizes and teaches team members the early symptoms of physical and mental illness.
• Performs or coaches staff to perform appropriate interventions and/or referrals in accordance with an identified crisis plan.
• Provides leadership and clinical consultation to team members working directly with consumers.
• Demonstrates a positive cooperative attitude, flexibility, and a willingness to change to meet department goals.
• Performs additional duties as may be assigned to ensure complete service to all customers.
