Summary
Central Environmental, Inc. is a subsidiary of Bering Straits Native Corporation and is currently seeking multiple qualified abatement laborers to join our abatement teams in the Anchorage and Fairbanks areas. We offer competitive pay and opportunities for advancement.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Identify and remove, pack, transport, or dispose of hazardous materials including asbestos, lead-based paint, waste oil, fuel, transmission fluid, radioactive materials or contaminated soil.
- Assists in demolition and deconstruction activities
- Cleans and maintains tools, sampling equipment, and lab equipment
- Responsible for keeping the site and grounds clean and neat
- Performs daily equipment checks
- Loads and unloads scrap materials into trucks and roll off boxes
- Performs work safely in accordance with departmental safety procedures and operates equipment safely. Reports any unsafe work condition or practice to supervisor
- Performs other related and non-related duties as assigned
- Willing to travel

Qualifications
- Must have a clean & valid driver license (Required)
- 40hr Asbestos Certification, physical, and fit test (Preferred)
- 40hr HAZWOPER (preferred)
- High School Diploma or GED (Preferred)
- Lead Awareness Certification (Preferred)
Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand for extended periods of time, climb ladders, and wear personal protective equipment including respirator for extended periods of time.
- The employee must be able to lift and/or push and pull equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Wearing a respirator (up to full face PAPR) for entire work shift (except for rest and meal breaks).
- Must pass Fit For Duty Pre-Employment Physical
- Must have reliable transportation
Work Environment
Work is performed in a variety of locations and work environments. Typical work environments include:
- Outdoors, all seasons.
- Inside vacated buildings.
- Within confined spaces.
- The noise level in the work environment can be loud depending on equipment being operated in the vicinity.
- Elevated work areas such as scaffolding, rooftops, aerial work platforms and devices.
Additional Qualifying Factors
As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and have acceptable background check results. If applicable to the contract, you must also obtain the appropriate clearance levels required and be able to obtain access to military installations.
Shareholder Preference. BSNC gives hiring, promotion, training and retention preference to BSNC shareholders, shareholder descendants and shareholder spouses who meet the minimum qualifications for the job.
