Job summary

Old Dominion Abatement and Demolition (ODAD) seeks a General Laborer to support abatement, remediation, ICRA, and demolition projects. You will assist with site setup, material handling, containment installation, and routine field tasks.

This role requires adherence to safety policies, ability to travel to job sites, and willingness to work overtime. Training provided; OSHA 10 and other certifications preferred.

Job Summary:

Old Dominion Abatement and Demolition (ODAD) provides specialized environmental and demolition services, including asbestos and lead abatement, mold remediation, Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) services, and selective demolition. Our highly trained professionals are committed to performing each project safely, efficiently, and in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements and industry standards.

The General Laborer performs a variety of physical labor and construction-related tasks in support of abatement, remediation, ICRA, and selective demolition projects. This position assists with job-site setup and cleanup, material handling, containment installation, demolition activities, and other assigned field work. The General Laborer is responsible for following the direction of the Foreman or Superintendent and completing assigned work safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company and project requirements.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing, and other duties will be assigned based on the position’s role within the business unit.

• Perform general labor and construction-related tasks as directed by the Foreman or Superintendent.
• Assist with the setup, maintenance, and cleanup of assigned work areas.
• Load, unload, move, and organize materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.
• Assist with selective demolition activities, including removal of designated materials and debris.
• Assist with asbestos and lead abatement, mold remediation, ICRA containment, and other environmental work when properly trained and authorized.
• Assist with the installation and maintenance of containments, barriers, floor protection, signage, and other required work-area controls.
• Use hand tools, power tools, and applicable construction equipment safely and as directed.
• Follow project plans, work instructions, company procedures, and directions provided by field supervision.
• Follow company safety policies, OSHA requirements, environmental regulations, and project-specific procedures.
• Properly use, inspect, and care for required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas throughout the workday.
• Collect, sort, bag, containerize, and dispose of debris and materials in accordance with project requirements.
• Assist skilled crew members with carpentry, drywall, containment, demolition, and other construction-related tasks as assigned.
• Immediately report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, material shortages, or other job-site concerns to the Foreman or Superintendent.
• Protect existing building finishes, equipment, and occupied areas from damage during work activities.
• Participate in daily crew briefings, pre-task planning, safety discussions, and required training.
• Follow proper procedures for the handling, transport, and storage of tools, equipment, materials, and waste.
• Work cooperatively with crew members and other trades in the immediate work area as directed.
• Travel to assigned job sites and work overtime, weekends, nights, or off-hour shifts when required

Minimum Qualifications:

• Previous construction, demolition, abatement, remediation, or general labor experience preferred but not required.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and work under the direction of field supervision.
• Basic knowledge of construction safety practices or willingness to learn and follow required safety procedures.
• Ability to safely use and maintain hand tools, power tools, and applicable construction equipment after proper training.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a field crew.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, productivity, and teamwork.
• Ability to maintain reliable and timely attendance.
• Ability to travel to assigned job sites.
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, nights, or varying shifts based on project needs.
• Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications applicable to assigned work.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous construction or general labor experience.
• Abatement, demolition, environmental remediation, or ICRA experience.
• Active asbestos abatement certification(s).
• Lead abatement or remediation experience.
• Selective demolition experience.
• Experience working in healthcare or occupied environments.
• OSHA 10 certification.
• Carpentry and/or drywall experience.
• Bilingual English/Spanish.
• High school diploma, GED, or trade school education.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work in active indoor and outdoor construction environments with exposure to dust, noise, debris, varying temperatures, and other job-site conditions.
• Ability to walk, sit, stand, bend, kneel, stretch, stoop, crouch, squat, reach, and climb as required throughout the workday.
• Ability to safely climb and work from ladders, scaffolding, and elevated work areas when required.
• Ability to work in confined or restricted spaces when properly trained and authorized.
• Ability to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respiratory protection and protective clothing when applicable.
• Ability to safely work with specialized construction equipment, hand and power tools, and materials.
• Ability to travel to job sites, meetings, and other destinations as needed.
• Ability to see, speak, and hear effectively in person, by phone, and through online/video communication.
• Ability to use hands and fingers in a manner that allows for the operation of tools, equipment, keyboards, phones, and other devices.
• Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for periods of time as required for reporting, timekeeping, documentation, and other administrative responsibilities.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods.
