GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY

The Laborer is responsible for performing various physical and manual tasks to support abatement projects, including site preparation, debris removal, material sorting, and equipment assistance. This role ensures the job site remains safe, clean, and organized while contributing to the overall success of project execution. The Laborer works closely with other team members and follows all safety protocols to maintain a productive and hazard-free environment.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Site Preparation and Maintenance

  • Assist with preparing job sites for asbestos activities, including setting up barriers, fencing, and safety signage.
  • Maintain a clean and organized site by removing debris, sweeping, and sorting materials for recycling or disposal.
  • Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment as required.

Abatement Support

  • Provide support to equipment operators and site supervisors during Abatement activities.
  • Operate basic tools and equipment, including sledgehammers, jackhammers, and wheelbarrows, under supervision.
  • Break down structures and remove non-structural materials such as drywall, flooring, and fixtures.

Safety and Compliance

  • Follow all site safety rules and company policies to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required and report any hazards or unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
  • Assist with setting up and maintaining traffic control measures as needed.

Team Collaboration

  • Work as part of a team to complete tasks efficiently and on schedule.
  • Communicate effectively with site supervisors and team members to coordinate activities.
  • Take direction and assist with additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

REQUIRED JOB SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including heavy lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Basic knowledge of abatement tools, equipment, and techniques.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and willingness to follow safety guidelines.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate clearly.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to changing site conditions.

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in construction, abatement, or a related field is a plus but not required.
  • Basic understanding of abatement processes, tools, and materials.
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
  • Must have asbestos certification from CDHPE

WORKING ENVIRONMENT & CONDITIONS:

  • Primarily indoor work with exposure to varying conditions, dust, noise, and debris.
  • Requires frequent lifting, carrying, and moving of heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toe boots, is mandatory.
  • Work may involve standing, bending, kneeling, and climbing for extended periods.
  • Regular work hours with occasional overtime based on project needs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong understanding of safe work practices and job site safety requirements.
  • Basic knowledge of Abatement processes, including material handling and debris removal.
  • Ability to operate and maintain basic tools and equipment used in abatement work.
  • Physical stamina and endurance to perform labor-intensive tasks.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills to collaborate with crew members and supervisors.
  • Flexibility to take on various tasks and adapt to changing project demands.
  • Willingness to learn and grow within the demolition field.
