Job summary

Airbus Americas, Inc. in Mobile, AL is seeking an Airframe MRB/Liaison Engineer to join the Engineering team.

The A320 Family MAP Structures Design Engineer role focuses on developing, justifying, and engineering approval of design solutions for airframe non-conformities, working across shop floor interfaces between local manufacturing and design offices. You will collaborate with the FAL, flight line, and delivery center to keep production moving while upholding airworthiness.

Qualifications

  • BS in Aerospace, Aeronautical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering (or equivalent).
  • 6+ years of progressive experience in aircraft structure design engineering support.
  • Airframe Structures Expertise: knowledge of primary/secondary structures design, repair design principles, and structural data assessments.
  • Airbus Frameworks & Procedures: understanding of internal Airbus design principles, procedures, processes, and tools.
  • Technical Documentation: proficiency with standard Airbus manuals (SRM, AMM, IPC).
  • Configuration & Change Management: knowledge of Airbus configuration management rules and change processes.
  • Non-Conformity Toolsets: experience with shop-floor and flight line non-conformities, concessions, and DQNs.
  • Eligible for employment in the US.
  • Willing to travel up to 10% domestically and overseas within Airbus network.

Responsibilities

  • Author, validate, and authorize technical solutions, repair drawings, rework instructions, and design datasets within primary and secondary structures.
  • Ensure compliance with Aircraft Safety, Airbus Design Principles, and continuous Airworthiness requirements across all engineering files.
  • Create and approve temporary definitions (special instructions) for testing in line with design and airworthiness requirements.
  • Release standard repair instructions while coordinating major reworks with global engineering departments.
  • Act as a critical interface between Chief Engineering/Design Offices and local Manufacturing and Quality Assurance.
  • Review complex design data, prepare materials for briefings, and provide informed input.
  • Validate and authorize technical design solutions and repairs for deviations found during assembly or testing, maintaining SLA adherence.
  • Represent the A320 Family Chief Engineering office and coordinate with overseas teams to resolve complex structural issues.
  • Provide on-site structural engineering support through the manufacturing process and assist in customer acceptance negotiations.
  • Initiate and monitor permanent modification drawings, updates, and design notes to address recurring defects and improve performance.
  • Align local solutions with Airbus global engineering standards.
  • Participate in cross-border technical blocks to resolve anomalies and build consensus.
  • Share expertise and mentor teammates within the structural design perimeter.
  • Explain repair configurations to internal/external customers, suppliers, and the flight test department.

Job Description

Airbus Commercial Aircraft is looking for an Airframe MRB / Liaison Engineer to join the Engineering department based in Mobile, AL. The A320 Family MAP Structures Design Engineer is a highly technical, operational role responsible for the development, justification, and engineering approval of design solutions related to aircraft primary and secondary structure non-conformities. The role operates within the Final Assembly Line (FAL), flight line, and delivery center, serving as a critical interface on the shop floor between local manufacturing operations and the transnational Airbus Design Offices and Chief Engineering networks. The core mission is to deliver immediate, high-quality, and structurally sound engineering design solutions to keep production moving while ensuring aircraft safety and continued airworthiness. The scope covers metallic and composite airframe structures across relevant ATA chapters, ensuring shop floor deviations, damages, and concessions are resolved or mitigated according to design principles.
