Job summary

Airbus Americas, Inc. in Mobile, AL is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to support A320 family aircraft design, addressing primary and secondary structures and coordinating between shop floor operations and Airbus Design Offices.

The role requires 3+ years in aircraft structure design support, strong knowledge of airframe structures, adherence to Airbus Design Principles, and international collaboration. On-site work with travel up to 10% domestically and abroad is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Aerospace, Aeronautical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of progressive experience in aircraft structure (airframe) design engineering support.
  • Airframe Structures expertise: knowledge of primary and secondary structures design, repair design principles, and structural data assessments.
  • Understanding of Airbus Design Principles, internal procedures, processes, and tools.
  • Technical documentation experience with manuals such as SRM, AMM, and IPC.
  • Configuration and change management knowledge: rules, change request process, and product structure tracking.
  • Proficiency with non-conformity tools: tracking shop-floor and flight line non-conformities, concessions, and DQNs.
  • Eligibility to work in the US.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% domestically and overseas.

Responsibilities

  • Author, validate, and authorize technical solutions, repair drawings, rework instructions, and design datasets within primary and secondary structural perimeters.
  • Ensure compliance with Aircraft Safety and Airbus Design Principles across all released engineering files.
  • Create, approve, and authorize temporary aircraft definitions (special instructions) for testing within design and airworthiness requirements.
  • Release standard structural repair instructions and coordinate major reworks with global Airbus engineering departments.
  • Act as the interface on the shop floor between Chief Engineering/Design Offices and local Manufacturing and Quality Assurance.
  • Review and interpret complex design data; prepare materials for technical briefings and provide input to the team.
  • Formulate, validate, and authorize technical design solutions and structure repair drawings for deviations found during assembly, outfit inspection, or production flights; adhere to site SLAs.
  • Represent the A320 Family Chief Engineering office and coordinate with overseas engineering and center-of-competency departments to resolve non-standard structural problems.
  • Provide on-site structures engineering support through the manufacturing process and assist in customer acceptance negotiations with clear technical explanations.
  • Launch and monitor engineering design improvements, permanent modification drawings, drawing updates, and Design Query Notes to address recurring defects and improve performance.
  • Collaborate with Airbus Americas and European Engineering to align local solutions with global design standards.
  • Participate in international technical collaboration and knowledge sharing; mentor team members within the structural design perimeter.
  • Deliver technical explanations to internal/external customers, suppliers, and the flight test department.
