Job description

The Computing Solutions Department is looking for a Systems Engineer II to develop next‑generation product line solutions in Cedar Rapids, IA. The team focuses on creating, certifying, and sustaining solutions for a wide variety of safety‑critical avionics products.

What You Will Do
  • Develop requirements for a highly integrated DAL A computing system in accordance with industry guidance (ARP4754B) and program plans.
  • Create comprehensive plans, requirements, architecture definition, meticulous verification and validation, and develop detailed design documentation for next‑generation avionic electronic systems.
  • Drive product‑architecture discussions, focusing on designing systems that are not only effective but also certifiable, in close collaboration with Hardware, Software, Safety, and Security teams.
  • Occasional travel (approximately 10%) as needed.
Qualifications
You Must Have
  • Experience with safety‑critical system, hardware, or software development (e.g., DO-178C, DO-254, or ARP4754A/B).
  • Experience authoring and validating requirements.
  • Typically requires a STEM degree and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field.

  • Experience with the avionics equipment certification process.
  • Experience working with stakeholders to generate concepts of operations and use cases.
  • Experience authoring in‑depth technical documents.
  • Experience working with and testing embedded hardware and software.
  • Experience developing automated tests utilizing scripting.
  • Excellent communication skills for both internal and external customers.
  • Adaptable to change, self‑motivated, and eager to learn new technologies; collaborative and committed to program schedules.

Salary range for this role is $68,900 USD – $131,100 USD, a good‑faith estimate representing all experience levels.
