Job summary

Great Hearts Academies is seeking a Third Grade Elementary School Teacher at Maryvale Preparatory Academy in Phoenix, AZ. The Homeroom Teacher will guide students to develop a love of learning through the Great Hearts curriculum, with support from an Assistant/Apprentice Teacher.

The role emphasizes building a nurturing classroom culture, teaching core subjects like Phonics, Mathematics, History, Science, and Literature, and engaging families to support student growth and achievement.

Qualifications

• K-5 teaching experience is required.
• Bachelor's degree or higher is required for a lead teaching role.
• US work authorization is required.

Responsibilities

• Teach assigned classes using the Great Hearts curriculum and materials, preparing thoughtful lessons and maintaining an orderly, joyful classroom.
• Provide academic support to students, monitor progress, and coordinate with school leadership to address needs.
• Uphold Great Hearts culture, policies, dress code and safety procedures, contributing to a respectful school environment.
• Communicate clearly with families, initiate conferences as needed, and foster strong home-school partnerships.

Location: Maryvale Preparatory Academy (4825 W Camelback Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85031)

Reports To: Headmaster

FLSA Status: Salaried-Exempt

Compensation Type: Salary

Compensation Amount: starting at $40,000

Roles and Responsibilities

• About the K-5 Teacher Role: As a Homeroom Teacher you provide a welcoming and nurturing classroom that guides students to build a deep sense of wonder and a love of learning. Curricular elements include Spalding Phonics, Singapore Mathematics, as well as rich content in History, Science, and Literature. As a Homeroom Teacher you enjoy the support of an Assistant/Apprentice Teacher in your classroom.
• Teach assigned classes using the Great Hearts curriculum and materials, preparing thoughtful lessons and cultivating an orderly, joyful classroom that supports the pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty.
• Provide appropriate academic support to students, monitor progress, and partner with school leadership to address academic or behavioral needs in a timely manner.
• Uphold and model the culture, policies, and expectations of Great Hearts, including dress code, conduct, and safety procedures, contributing to a respectful and orderly school environment.
• Communicate clearly and professionally with families, initiating conferences as needed and fostering strong home-school partnerships.
• Participate fully in the life of the academy through faculty collaboration, school events, assigned duties, and a shared commitment to ongoing professional growth and excellence in teaching.

Education

• Bachelor's or higher degree is required for a lead teaching role
• Certification is not required for general education
• All majors are welcome

Experience

• K-5 Teaching experience

Skills

• Excellent oral and written communication skills, and an interest in reading great books.

Physical Functions

• Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching.
• May be required to move or position equipment up to 15 pounds approximately.

Additional Requirements

• US work authorization isrequired, but we do accept OPT/CPT candidates.
• Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance in accordance with state requirements.
• Travel required: May need to travel locally for training and professional development opportunities.
