Job summary

Fathom is seeking a Senior Applications Engineer in Wisconsin to lead CNC manufacturing strategies for aerospace and defense programs. You will translate complex requirements into manufacturable, profitable solutions, develop competitive proposals, and guide transitions from opportunity to production.

You will collaborate with Sales, Design for Manufacturability, and production teams to ensure cost, lead times, and risk are understood before commitments, while driving long-term customer

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering or related field.
• 7+ years in CNC manufacturing or related roles.
• Experience with aerospace/defense customers and technical proposals.
• Strong financial and cost modeling capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical and manufacturing strategy for complex CNC opportunities and aerospace and defense programs.
• Develop competitive, accurate, and commercially sound proposals including materials, methods, tooling, and lead times.
• Partner with Sales; participate in customer discovery, qualification, presentations, negotiations, and closing.
• Identify opportunities to expand relationships with aerospace and defense customers and convert projects into recurring programs.
• Conduct DFM reviews and propose improvements to reduce cost and improve manufacturability.
• Evaluate machining methods, tooling, workholding, programming strategies, inspection plans, and production workflows.
• Collaborate with sites and suppliers to validate capability, capacity and readiness.
• Ensure requirements, DFM decisions, costs, tooling plans, inspection expectations, and commitments are clear to customers.
