Registered Nurse (RN) – Vascular Intermediate Care | Stepdown

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring full-time Registered Nurses for our Vascular Stepdown Intermediate Care Unit (9K), home to Hampton Roads’ only Level I Trauma Center.

Location: Sentara Norfolk General Hospital – Norfolk, VA

Position Status: Full-time, 36 hours per week

Shift: Day or Night shift

Available Hours:

7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

or 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.

Weekends: Every other weekend

Holiday Rotation: Required

As part of the Surgical Specialty Team, our unit brings together RNs, LPNs, Nursing Care Partners, Unit Ambassadors, and Clinical Support Associates who work side by side to deliver exceptional patient care.

Every bed is monitored, giving nurses the opportunity to strengthen telemetry skills while expanding their expertise in surgical specialty and transplant nursing.

This unit welcomes new graduate nurses and experienced nurses moving into this specialty. The 11-week Transition to Practice program focuses on the orientation transition experience with intentional knowledge support and skill acquisition for practice in IMC areas. For new graduates, this TTP program is the start of a comprehensive 6-month residency program to support your transition to practice.

Education Requirements

Certification/Licensure Requirements

• Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire

Experience Requirements

• Prior RN experience preferred
• Intermediate Care/Stepdown experience preferred
• Strong candidates with related acute care, intermediate care, cardiac, stroke, or med/surg experience are encouraged to apply
• New graduate RNs or experienced RNs with no acute care experience are encouraged to apply

The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. We provide market‑competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, and benefits. The base pay range for full-time employment is $41.93 - $61.01 hourly. Additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, on-call pay, overtime, shift premiums, extra‑shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
