Job summary

Sierra Space is seeking an experienced Welder Technician V to perform master-level welding across repair and fabrication tasks for launch-ready components. You will align and weld metal parts, fixtures and tools using MIG, TIG, and orbital methods, leveraging precision measurement tools and standard alloys.

You will lead, mentor, and train teammates, coordinate with engineers on weld procedures, and ensure compliance with PPE, 5S, FOD, and ESD standards.

Qualifications

About the Role

The Welder Technician V is responsible for performing master-level welding tasks in a variety of repair and fabrication work in mechanical and fluid systems in preparation for launch operations. This role involves aligning and welding components of metal tools, wires, fixtures, and other metal products. These systems include structural, hydraulic, zirconium, stainless steel, and other components. The Welder Technician V may utilize different types of welding systems for different tasks and is expected to perform master equipment setup and maintenance, use precision measurement tools, and adhere to shop safety and best practices. In this role, you will perform master-level cutting, trimming, fitting, and fabricating weldments to dimensions for building and assembly using standard tools, materials, and welding trade practices. You will lead, mentor, and train team members on welding projects while collaborating with engineers to ensure proper weld procedures, programs, types of materials, setups, and approaches are accurately assessed. Utilizing different types of welding systems, you will work from various technical drawings and follow detailed work instructions to perform tasks according to procedures, specifications, and test instructions. You will use precision measurement tools to ensure components meet specified tolerances and fabricate fixtures for use, including non-flight parts with standard alloys and complex geometry. Adhering to standard shop practices, you will follow personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety requirements, as well as 5S, FOD, and ESD awareness protocols. Additionally, you will record daily work completion accurately and report to the lead technician while contributing to enhancing operations, minimizing turnaround times, streamlining workflows, and fostering effective collaboration.

Minimum Qualifications

• Typically 12+ years of related experience.
• Familiarity with general best shop practices including PPE and shop safety requirements.
• Ability to use precision measurement tools and fabricate fixtures for use including non-flight parts with standard alloys and complex geometry.
• Understanding of 5S, FOD, and ESD awareness.
• Ability to follow correct packaging and handling requirements for all hardware.
• Master understanding of welding techniques and processes, including MIG, TIG, and Orbital arc welding.

Preferred Qualifications

• Formal training or education in welding or a related field.
• Strong mathematical, basic computer, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, and strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Previous experience in an aerospace manufacturing or welding environment.
• Proficiency in using hand and power tools.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Good communication skills and a willingness to learn and adapt.

Compensation

Pay Range: $37.90 - $52.11

Your actual base compensation will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related knowledge and skills, education, experience, internal equity and market competitiveness.
