The 9:30 Club, part of the IMP family of venues, is seeking a proactive, hands-on Assistant Bar Manager to support the daily bar operations across our three U Street venues: the 9:30 Club, Lincoln Theatre, and The Atlantis. This role is designed to provide critical support to the Bar Manager and ensure consistent, high-quality bar service during events while maintaining company policies and delivering exceptional staff and guest experiences.
Key Responsibilities
Event & Staff Oversight:
- Serve as on-site bar management for events at any venue throughout the week.
- Provide support on high-capacity or multi-venue show nights.
- Manage staffing adjustments based on ticket sales, weather, or operational needs.
- Oversee staff adherence to policies, including punctuality and station presence.
- Supervise VIP events, ensuring high service quality and discretion.
- Conduct pre-shift meetings to communicate event details.
- Ensure safe handling of kitchen food products and compliance with food safety standards.
- Verify cleanliness and proper closing of bar areas post-shift.
- Step in to bartend or barback when needed.
Technical & POS Support
- Handle POS troubleshooting, including refunds, voids, reports, and credit card issues.
- Maintain POS functionality and product accuracy.
- Serve as on-site contact for bar-related issues during shifts.
Operational & Administrative Duties
- Assist with supply ordering, receiving, and invoice processing.
- Support inventory management and data entry.
- Manage shift swaps and staff questions via scheduling software.
- Assist with onboarding and training of new staff.
- Support special projects as needed.
Additional Expectations
- This role will evolve with the employee; additional responsibilities may be assigned.
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory bar management experience, preferably in high-volume or live events.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with POS and inventory management.
- Ability to perform frontline roles as needed.
- Availability nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Tech-savvy with experience in scheduling platforms like 7shifts and Paycom.
- Possess ABC Managers License and DC Food Handlers License.
