Description
The 9:30 Club, part of the IMP family of venues, is seeking a proactive, hands-on Assistant Bar Manager to support the daily bar operations across our three U Street venues: the 9:30 Club, Lincoln Theatre, and The Atlantis. This role is designed to provide critical support to the Bar Manager and ensure consistent, high-quality bar service during events while maintaining company policies and delivering exceptional staff and guest experiences.
Key Responsibilities:
Event & Staff Oversight:
- Serve as on-site bar management for events at any venue throughout the week.
- Provide additional support on high-capacity or multi-venue show nights.
- Manage call-outs and make real-time staffing adjustments based on ticket sales, weather conditions, or operational needs (e.g., rooftop open/close).
- Oversee staff adherence to policies, including timely arrivals and station presence.
- Supervise VIP events and ensure a high level of service and discretion.
- Conduct pre-shift meetings to communicate event-specific details and updates.
- Ensure safe handling of kitchen food product and compliance with food safety standards.
- Verify cleanliness and proper closing of bar areas post-shift.
- Step in to bartend or barback in cases of last-minute shortages.
Technical & POS Support:
- Handle POS troubleshooting, including refunds, voids, comps, report generation, and credit card processing issues.
- Maintain POS back of house functionality and product accuracy consistently.
- Serve as on-site point-of-contact for any bar department related issues during assigned shifts.
Operational & Administrative Duties:
- Assist with bar supply ordering, receiving, and invoice scanning, as assigned.
- Help coordinate and conduct bar inventory across venues; support data entry and tracking.
- Monitor and manage shift swap requests and staff questions through 7shifts scheduling software.
- Support onboarding and training efforts for new hires; provide schedule coordination and progress reviews.
- Take ownership of occasional special projects.
Additional Expectations:
- This role will evolve with the employee. Additional responsibilities will be assigned based on performance, leadership, and initiative.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in a bar management supervisory role (required), preferably in a high-volume or live event setting
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to manage staff across multiple departments and venues
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, with a calm demeanor under pressure
- Familiarity with POS systems and bar inventory management
- Ability to step into frontline roles (bartending/barbacking) as needed
- Comfortable working nights, weekends, and holidays as required by event schedules
- Tech-savvy and detail-oriented, with experience using scheduling platforms like 7shifts and Paycom
- Possess ABC Managers License as well as DC Food Handlers License
