Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• Certified by the State of Alabama in the appropriate area.
• Must meet highly qualified status as determined by Alabama State Department of Education.
• Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama statutes and State Board of Education regulations.

Responsibilities

• Understand and uphold school rules, regulations, and Board of Education policies.
• Participate in the efficient and effective operation of the school and system, including meetings and committee responsibilities.
• Avoid any employment that interferes with duties and responsibilities.
• Abide by the Code of Ethics for teachers.
• Follow approved courses of study and curricula adopted by the Dothan City Board of Education.
• Foster citizenship, self-discipline, morality, and patriotism among students.
• Meet and instruct assigned classes at designated times.
• Maintain a conducive classroom environment within available resources.
• Establish discipline and assist in maintaining school discipline.
• Prepare for classes and show evidence of preparation upon request.
• Maintain accurate records as required by policy and law.
• Evaluate student progress according to established procedures.
• Seek assistance from specialists when needed and refer when appropriate.
• Protect students and school property; ensure safety of equipment and facilities.
• Be available to students/parents outside instructional hours as agreed.
• Work with staff on planning activities, goals, and methods.
• Assist in selecting instructional materials and books.
• Participate in extracurricular activities as agreed.
• Attend faculty meetings regularly.
• Maintain professional relationships with parents and community.
• Promote positive public relations for the school.
• Maintain and improve professional competence.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
