Lancaster County is seeking a Trainee to learn the foundational skills of a 9-1-1 Telecommunicator and progress to Telecommunicator II after the learning period. The role emphasizes rapid, accurate data entry and dispatch in a high-tempo environment.
Candidates must qualify for multiple certifications, complete typing tests, and demonstrate the ability to work under supervision while developing essential public-safety communication skills.

Learns the basic skills necessary to become functional in the skills of a call taker. Since this is a position of learning, an employee in this class may not remain in this position beyond their first year of employment. The employee must progress to a 9-1-1 Telecommunicator II.
Work is performed under the general supervision of the 9-1-1 Communications Supervisor.
Must successfully obtain the following certifications and re-certifications as needed; CLEAN, CPR, JNET, PEMA Approved Protocols, NCMEC, FEMA, IS-100, and 700, Basic Telecommunicator. Must pass a 25 wpm typing test and a skill-based test.
An employee in this class must be able to communicate, sit, stand, walk, reach, and twist frequently. Employee must be able to sit for extended periods of time wearing a telephone headset while using computer equipment. Employee will troubleshoot PSAP equipment, as well as other computer and building systems. Therefore, employee must be able to pull, push, kneel, and squat occasionally. Lifting up to 10 pounds will be performed frequently.
