Job summary

County of Santa Clara is seeking a 9-1-1 Dispatcher I to answer calls and dispatch public safety responders. Trainees participate in an 8-week academy and complete probationary periods with ongoing training under supervision.

Qualified applicants will undergo background checks and must complete POST certification within one year. A sign-on bonus of up to $5,000 may be available; medical, dental, and life insurance benefits are provided.

Qualifications

• Requires successful completion of extensive background checks including fingerprinting and medical exams.
• POST position with eligibility and ongoing CPT requirements.
• Must meet training and certification timelines for emergency dispatch credentials.

Responsibilities

• Answer 9-1-1 calls and dispatch personnel and equipment for public safety operations.
• Receive and record information, monitor radio and data channels, and manage multiple tasks under pressure.
• Complete required training and certifications; maintain records and adhere to procedures.
• Perform duties as a Disaster Service Worker as required.
