Job summary

Ingham County is seeking a 911 Dispatcher to operate in a 24-hour public safety environment under supervisory direction. The role handles emergency and non-emergency calls, determines priority, dispatches units, provides pre-arrival instructions, and coordinates information via CAD and radios.

Shifts are 12 hours with overtime and on-call availability. Candidates should have a High School diploma or equivalent, with coursework in Criminal Justice or Public Safety preferred, and experience in

• Experience in law enforcement, fire, EMS, or high-volume dispatch preferred.
• Must pass data entry keyboarding test and background checks.

Responsibilities

• Receives, evaluates, and prioritizes emergency and non-emergency calls.
• Dispatches necessary emergency units (law enforcement, fire, medical).
• Provides pre-arrival emergency medical instructions to the public.
• Coordinates information via CAD, radios, MDTs, phones, and other devices.
• Monitors radio talk groups and responds to requests.
• Performs data entry as needed.
• May train other staff.
