Job summary

Salt Lake Valley Emergency Communications Center (SLVECC) is seeking a Communications Officer I to perform 9-1-1 call taking and public safety dispatch in a 24-hour operation. Responsibilities include handling emergency and non-emergency requests, prioritizing incidents, documenting activity in CAD, and coordinating resources for police, fire, and medical responders.

Comprehensive training is provided, with a strong benefits package.

Qualifications

• High School diploma, GED or recognised equivalent.
• Ability to speak, read, write, interpret and document information in English.
• Type at least 40 words per minute with accuracy to perform essential functions.
• Ability to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, holidays and overtime as required.
• Must satisfy pre-employment requirements including background checks and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Receive and process emergency and non-emergency requests for police, fire, medical, and other public safety services.
• Interview callers quickly and accurately to determine incident details and enter information into CAD.
• Evaluate information to determine appropriate response priority.
• Communicate calmly in stressful situations and provide approved instructions.
• Maintain accurate incident records and relay information to appropriate agencies.
