  • Students spend about a third of each day making and studying art, and take two different arts classes at any one time, many of them taught by teaching artists who serve on the staff of the school.
  • Students come from all five boroughs, and the school features a diversity of students that mirrors the city’s diversity.
    • Plan units to address big ideas within disciplines;
    • Plan lessons both independently and collaboratively that are organized in the context of developed units and that include individual measurable objectives;

    • Teach reading using targeted intervention strategies, including shared and guided reading, in small groups;
    • Run a daily advisory class that includes daily student goal-setting and independent reading and a daily morning meeting;
    • Implement common, school-wide behavioral and instructional practices that address room management and culture-building, student citizenship, and good behavior monitoring. Family outreach, reading and writing routines, questioning and discussion routines, and assessment;
    • Regularly administer, collect, and analyze assessment data gathered from a variety of sources;
    • Use Google Classroom and other domain-specific platforms to create and maintain updated classroom and assignment streams, distribute student work, and assess student work;
    • Participate in ongoing professional learning and support colleagues by providing regular feedback on their practices; and
    • Participate in at least one of the school’s committees , including but not limited to Hiring, Budget, Professional Development, Leadership, Calendar and Programming, Community Outreach, Events, and Awards.
