SouthLake Christian Academy, serving the Lake Norman area near Charlotte, NC, seeks an 8th Grade English and Composition Teacher for Spring 2027. This 10-month position may be annualized for pay, with a January 5, 2027 start date and reporting to the Middle School Principal.

The role requires delivering engaging lessons, fostering spiritual growth, and maintaining a positive classroom. A Bachelor’s in a related field is required; teaching certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and deliver daily English and Composition lessons for 8th graders aligned with curriculum and standards.

• Create a positive, orderly classroom environment that promotes respect and on-task behavior.
• Maintain grades, attendance, and behavior records and communicate progress with parents.
• Collaborate with colleagues to plan units and support schoolwide initiatives.
• Uphold the school's faith, mission, and policies as a Christian role model.

Note: 10-month position; salary may be annualized and paid over 12 months

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and deliver daily English and Composition lessons that are developmentally appropriate for 8th graders and aligned with the school’s curriculum and standards.
• Foster students’ spiritual growth by teaching Scripture faithfully, modeling Christlike character, and providing age-appropriate opportunities for prayer, reflection, and discussion.
• Create and maintain a positive, orderly, and engaging classroom environment that promotes respect, active participation, and on-task behavior.
• Maintain accurate records of student grades, attendance, and behavior, and provide clear, regular communication with parents regarding students’ academic progress and spiritual development.
• Collaborate with grade-level and department colleagues to plan units, align curriculum, share best practices, and support schoolwide initiatives.
• Uphold and support the school’s statement of faith, mission, and policies, serving as a Christian role model in speech, conduct, and relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
• Be proficient in Google Workspace for managing assignments and grades.
• Give evidence of a Biblical worldview and a personal spiritual commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ.
• Be committed to and in agreement with the philosophy and objectives of SouthLake Christian Academy.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's Degree in related content field.
• Teacher certification preferred but not required.
• A personal commitment to follow Jesus Christ, and faithful involvement in a local church that agrees with SouthLake's Statement of Faith.

COMPENSATION

Salary is negotiable based on individual qualifications. The entry-level salary is $45,300.
