Role: 7th Grade Social Studies Teacher

Job Summary:
The Main Street Academy (TMSA) is seeking a self-motivated Middle School Social Studies Teacher who is enthusiastic, innovative and eager to provide a challenging and enriching education. The candidate must be able to create and foster a climate that promotes respect and self-discipline. The teacher is responsible to plan and model targeted instructional strategies. The teacher also provides instructional technology skills and possesses knowledge of curriculum materials, content standards, and assessments. The role will be responsible to understand and demonstrate the importance of effective communication with students, school personnel, and parents.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited university (Conferred)
Certification/Licensure
- Must hold a Georgia certificate in applicable field verifiable by the GaPSC
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Instructs students through discussions, hands-on activities, projects, models, and other effective teaching methods for student comprehension
- Prepares lessons that include differentiated instruction to effectively cover the Georgia Standards of Excellence
- Administers various types of assessments to monitor students’ content mastery
- Analyzes formal and informal data to inform instructional planning
- Monitors students in the classroom, at lunch, during recess and throughout the school to maintain order and discipline
- Performs various administrative duties such as taking attendance, organizing the classroom, and recording grades
- Coordinates parent/teacher conferences as needed to review student’s performance, behavior, etc.
- Demonstrates the importance of effective communication with students, parents and school personnel
- Demonstrates the ability to maintain positive relationships with colleagues and building administrators
- Adheres to local, state, and national testing procedures
- Attends faculty meetings and professional development
- Other duties as deemed necessary by the Principal
Skills and Knowledge:
- Ability to demonstrate and maintain positive relationships with colleagues and building principal
- Experienced in collaborating with teacher teams and adapting work to the needs of teachers and students
- Knowledge and demonstration of using innovative skills in instruction (analytical thinking, problem solving, communicating, collaborating, and finding and evaluating information)
- Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to utilize technology for communication and instruction to work with parents, students, and other service agencies
- Demonstrate organizational skills and initiative for working with minimal direct supervision
- Knowledge and experience using technology for communication, data analysis, gathering and organizing information for presentations
- A working knowledge of current research and resources in instruction
- Proficient use of the computer
- Maintain confidentiality
