Job description

Role Mission: IDEA ELA teachers are responsible for increasing student achievement and mastery of grade-level content. ELA teachers deliver pre-AP instruction that provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to access AP & high school level ELA curriculum. Teachers are tasked with delivering quality instruction and supports that facilitate student learning and comprehension, playing a critical role in students' path to and through college.

At IDEA, the goal is to provide students with a foundation that prepares them to be literate thinkers in school, college, and beyond. Today’s scholars must be able to engage with complex texts independently, read for knowledge, and respond to texts through written and oral communication. Additionally, they must navigate the wide range of texts available through online media, discern audience and purpose, seek evidence, and appreciate diverse cultures and perspectives. Reading is state assessed for grades 6th, 7th, and 8th. Writing is state assessed in 7th grade.

What We Offer
Compensation:
  • The starting teacher salary for 0 years of experience is $58,500. This role is eligible for various stipends based on certifications, credentials, and campus leadership ranging from $500-$4,000 each. We also offer opportunities and incentives through our Teacher Career Pathway with the potential to earn up to $10,000 in additional compensation.   • Additional hourly compensation is provided for after-school tutoring or Saturday school as assigned.
Other Benefits:

We offer a comprehensive benefits plan, covering the majority of the employee premium for the base medical plan and subsidizing the costs for a spouse/domestic partner and children. Some of the special benefits include:

  • Paid Family Leave: Up to 8 weeks of paid leave for the birth or adoption of a child, based on tenure and caregiver designation.
  • Tuition Reimbursement: Up to 50% of tuition paid toward a qualifying degree program, up to $5,250 annually, subject to discretion and budget.
  • Employee-Paid Mental/Behavioral Health: 5 face-to-face counseling sessions per year, unlimited 24/7 telephonic counseling, and other work-life services at no cost.

Additional benefits include dental and vision plans, disability, life insurance, parenting benefits, flexible spending accounts, vacation, referral bonuses, professional development, and a 403(b) plan. IDEA may also offer a relocation allowance if applicable.

What You Bring -- Competencies
Qualifications:
  • High proficiency in content area, evidenced by certification, field of study, or work experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution required.
  • Experience in a K-12 classroom preferred.
  • State certification preferred but not required.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Relevant coursework or experience related to ELA.
  • Knowledge of core academic subjects and ability to pass an IDEA content assessment.
  • Basic knowledge of curricula and instructional practices.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage behavior.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt to various situations in the school environment.
What You’ll Do -- Accountabilities
Responsibilities:
  • Implement state learning standards, IDEA curricula, and assessments to meet academic expectations.
  • Master and deliver content and grade-level curriculum, objectives, and texts.
  • Submit weekly lesson plans two weeks in advance for feedback.
  • Use assessments to track progress, adjust lessons, and update gradebook weekly.
  • Communicate student progress weekly with students and families.
  • Use technology effectively to enhance achievement and manage tasks.
  • Implement behavior management systems aligned with campus initiatives, fostering character and community.
  • Help develop a positive school-wide culture.
  • Build trusting relationships with students and families.
  • Host tutoring sessions as needed.
  • Participate in weekly meetings, duties, and school functions.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development.
  • Work a minimum of 40+ hours per week at school.
  • Additional duties may include after-school or Saturday tutoring based on student needs.
