Job summary

West Suburban YMCA in Newton, MA seeks a reliable van driver for after-school transportation. Expect approximately 5–6 hours per week, with scheduled slots Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri 2:30–3:30 pm and Wed 12:00–1:00 pm.   • Ensure van rules are announced and followed.
  • Develop friendly relationships among staff, volunteers, parents, teachers and children.
  • Communicate regularly with supervisor and staff.

Job description

We are looking for a reliable individual to drive the WSY van for approximately 1 hour a day: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 2:30-3:30 pm and Wednesday, 12:00 pm- 1:00 pm for a total of 5-6 hours per week. A 7D license is required to drive the WSY van.

Position Summary

Provides safe transportation to and from program sites while maintaining a supportive and positive atmosphere. May also provide support in other areas as assigned.

Essential Functions
  • Drive van safely according to YMCA policies and procedures and state laws.
  • Complete thorough before-and-after trip checks each day and record all information. Record gas level, mileage, and maintenance on designated forms. Clean out van each day.
  • Promote safety at all times by keeping first aid supplies fully stocked.
  • Actively support our DEIB statement and put into practice our commitment to equity, diversity, belonging and inclusion. Continue to think about strategies to support diversity goals of the organization.
  • Ensure that van rules are announced and followed.
  • Develop friendly and positive relationships among staff, volunteers, parents, teachers and children.
  • Communicate regularly with other staff members and supervisor.
Qualifications
  • Possess appropriate class license (7D License).
  • Knowledge of the rules/guidelines related to 7D passenger vehicles.
  • Commit to support and further our anti-racist work as an organization. Learn about our initiatives and the continuous work and be able to vocalize with members if needed.
  • Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR and First Aid.
  • Desire and ability to work with children.
  • Track record of building relationships with staff, volunteers, and parents.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to safely drive a van for long periods of time.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations.
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
