Job summary

YMCA of Greater Houston is seeking a Van/Bus Driver to transport children in the before- and after-school program. Safety is the top priority and you will build positive relationships with children, parents, and coworkers while following YMCA policies and state laws.

You will perform pre- and post-trip checks, log mileage and fuel, maintain clean vehicles, and promote safety at all times. The role requires responsiveness to emergencies and teamwork with staff to support the program.

Qualifications

• Minimum one year work experience as a bus driver.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Possess appropriate class license.
• Knowledge of the rules/guidelines related to commercial passenger vehicles (bus).
• Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR and First Aid.
• Desire and ability to work with children.
• Previous experience with diverse populations.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety of children, making sure they are picked up and dropped off at appropriate locations.
• Completes thorough before-and-after trip checks each day and records all information.
• Records gas level, mileage, and maintenance on designated forms.
• Cleans out bus each day.
• Promotes safety at all times by keeping first aid supplies fully stocked.
• Ensures that van rules are announced and followed.
• Communicates regularly with other staff members and supervisor.
• Reports suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
• Follows mandated abuse and incident reporting requirements.
• Meet timelines and deadlines related to supporting systems and employee compliance. Example includes but are not limited to Kronos Workforce Ready for review and approval of time sheets.
