Position Title: 5th Grade Writing/Grammar Lead Teacher
Location: Lakeside Lower School (7655 Harris Parkway, Fort Worth, TX 76123)
Reports To: Headmaster
FLSA Status: Salaried-Exempt
Salary: starting at $40,000

Position Summary

The Lead/Master Teacher works closely with the Headmaster in overseeing and helping to develop elements of the curriculum of the school. They work closely with other faculty to help them develop their teaching practices, and may observe and evaluate other teachers in their field.

About the K-5 Teacher Role

As a Homeroom Teacher you provide a welcoming and nurturing classroom that guides students to build a deep sense of wonder and a love of learning. Curricular elements include Spalding Phonics, Singapore Mathematics, as well as rich content in History, Science, and Literature. As a Homeroom Teacher you enjoy the support of an Assistant/Apprentice Teacher in your classroom.

Roles and Responsibilities

Teach assigned classes using the Great Hearts curriculum and materials, preparing thoughtful lessons and cultivating an orderly, joyful classroom that supports the pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty. Provide appropriate academic support to students, monitor progress, and partner with school leadership to address academic or behavioral needs in a timely manner. Uphold and model the culture, policies, and expectations of Great Hearts, including dress code, conduct, and safety procedures, contributing to a respectful and orderly school environment. Communicate clearly and professionally with families, initiating conferences as needed and fostering strong home-school partnerships. Participate fully in the life of the academy through faculty collaboration, school events, assigned duties, and a shared commitment to ongoing professional growth and excellence in teaching.

Required/Preferred Education

The Lead/Master Teacher must be veteran faculty who are both observed masters of their own subject matter, and a patient teacher and leader on the campus.

Required/Preferred Experience

Prior teaching experience in K-12 setting preferred.

Required/Preferred Skills

Superior written and verbal communication skills; oriented towards detail, thoroughness, and accuracy. Prior experience in K-12 school setting. The classroom (Archway) teacher teaches across the disciplines; the Core Knowledge curriculum for history, sciences, and some literature; Riggs Phonics; Singapore math; and also a literature discussion program called Touchstones. Reliable and punctual. Basic knowledge of Microsoft office programs. Detailed oriented with strong organization and time management skills. Demonstrated professionalism and responsible enough to take ownership of projects.

Physical Functions

Must be able to maintain a stationary position for 25% of the time. May occasionally move around the classroom, position self to be level with student desks and communicate accurate information and converse with others for 75% of the time. May be required to move or position equipment up to 10-15 pounds. May be exposed to outdoor weather. Some computer use expected.

US Work Authorization is required. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance in accordance with state requirements. Travel required: May need to travel locally for training and professional development opportunities. This description reflects management’s assignment of essential functions.
