Job summary

Northeast Tool & Manufacturing in Matthews, NC is seeking a CNC machinist to set up and operate multi-axis mills and lathes, read blueprints, and ensure parts meet tight tolerances.

Role involves tool installation, measurement with precision instruments, and documentation. Candidates should have shop math knowledge, GD&T experience, and a drive to learn in a team environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 1+ year in metal-cutting shop or equivalent
• Working knowledge of shop math and GD&T
• Blueprint literacy with understanding of thousandths and tenths
• Demonstrated consistency and repeatability in measurement
• Process-oriented and eager to learn

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC equipment including 5-axis and multi-axis mills and lathes to print specs
• Execute jobs from prints, sketches, or samples meeting tolerance requirements
• Install and secure tooling and recalibrate as needed
• Monitor operations to catch drift or out-of-tolerance conditions and escalate as needed
• Measure with micrometers, calipers, and digital metrology; document parts
• Deburr, clean, finish, and perform minor operations on parts
• Control tolerance bands and track tool wear; adhere to 5S and preventive maintenance
• Load and unload raw materials and finished parts
• Perform other duties as assigned

Join Northeast Tool in Matthews, NC (near Charlotte) and help produce precision components that keep aircraft flying. We’re scaling with advanced equipment, structured development, and a tight-knit, team-first culture.

The Role

• Set up and operate CNC equipment: 5-axis mills, mills, multi-axis mill-turns, lathes, and Wire EDMs
• Execute jobs from prints, sketches, specs, verbal instructions, or sample parts—meeting all dimensional and tolerance requirements
• Install and secure tooling; recalibrate as needed
• Monitor operations to catch and correct process drift or out-of-tolerance conditions; escalates to a lead as appropriate
• Measure with micrometers, calipers, and digital metrology; complete all part documentation
• Deburr, clean, and perform minor finishing; tap or countersink on hand or drill press as needed
• Control tolerance bands, track tool wear, and adhere to 5S and total preventive maintenance
• Load/unload raw materials and finished parts
• Perform other duties as assigned

Required Background

• High School Diploma/GED and 1+ year in a metal-cutting machine shop (or a comparable mix of higher education and experience)
• Working knowledge of shop math and GD&T
• Blueprint literacy; comfortable with thousandths and tenths
• Demonstrated consistency and repeatability in measurement
• Process-oriented and eager to learn

Preferred Experience

• Associate’s degree (machine tool technology/industrial manufacturing) or two years of equivalent higher education
• AS9100 environment exposure
• Multi-axis machining; experience with DMG Mori, Grob, and/or Okuma is strongly preferred
• Ability to hold 0.0002"–0.0005" tolerances (2–5 tenths)

Schedule & Premiums

• 1st Shift: Mon–Fri, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
• 2nd Shift: Mon–Fri, 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM (+$1/hour)
• 3rd Shift: Mon–Fri, 11:00 PM – 7:30 AM (+$2/hour). No Sunday work—report at 12:00 AM Monday.
